Building a Future: From Vehicle Maintenance to Purpose

Working on vehicles to help rehabilitation

Practical skills and education: Cornerstones of Rehabilitation

The hands-on mechanical program provides prison detainees with valuable vehicle inspection and maintenance training. The program starts with basic mechanics like safety checks, filter and oil changes, tyres and brakes. The goal is for the program to become a working workshop to maintain and repair the fleet of prison vehicles. This initiative saves costs for the correctional facility and provides practical skills for the course participants.

Preparing for Life Beyond Bars

The mechanical program incorporates literacy modules that focus on understanding technical schematics, safety protocols, and equipment manuals. This approach maximises being well-prepared for the technical aspects of mechanical work, enhancing detainees’ employability and reintegration into their communities when they leave the prison system.

Tools for Change

The mechanical program is one of OTM’s leading programs in men’s prisons. All infrastructure, PPE, tools, and consumables are donated by generous individuals and businesses who support the ministry One Tribe is doing in the Pacific Islands.
