Joint Efforts for Rehabilitation in Vanuatu

Laying the Foundation

Following the endorsement of One Tribe Ministries (OTM) by Fiji Corrections at the Pacific Forum in 2015, Vanuatu Corrections extended an invitation to OTM.

In August 2015, OTM Director Pete McCutchen met with the Manager of Correctional Services Vanuatu and the national representative of Evangelism Explosion. A formal Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was established by all parties shortly after, marking the beginning of a transformative partnership to deliver spiritual and practical rehabilitation programs within Vanuatu’s correctional facilities.

Collaborative Efforts

Since signing the MOU, OTM has developed a strong and ongoing partnership with Vanuatu’s Correctional Services Leadership, Officers, and Evangelism Explosion. Through regular visits to Vanuatu and continuous support from Evangelism Explosion’s in-country workers, OTM has cultivated a program designed to meet the needs of detainees and staff alike.

OTM also had the incredible opportunity to meet Prime Minister Sato Kilman and share the message of Jesus on community radio, expanding the ministry’s impact.

Programs That Transform

The following programs are offered to male and female detainees across maximum, medium, and low-risk prisons in Port Vila:

• Spiritual Growth and Development: Delivered through coursework and counselling, providing hope and purpose.
• Upskilling and Training: Equipping detainees with skills to enhance their employability upon release, including:
  • Welding
  • Wood carving
  • Basic mechanical training
  • Beekeeping
  • Additional skills as resources allow
